Hobart manager bows out after four decades


This December, David Grundy, Hobart Equipment Division government and key accounts manager, will call time on a 42-year career at the catering equipment giant.

Starting life at Hobart’s Nottingham branch as a catering specialist back in December 1977 – the year Star Wars first hit UK cinemas – Grundy quickly rose through the ranks, working in service, warewash and cooking divisions before eventually going on to become a highly respected Government sector specialist.

Described by well-wishers as “a larger than life character” and “an absolute gentleman of the industry”, Grundy said of his retirement, “For 42 years it’s been a way of life, but the time has come to call it a day. I want to pay tribute to everyone at Hobart and those that work in the industry I love – it’s the people I’ll miss most.”

When asked about how he plans to spend his retirement, Grundy added, “With family and friends; I’ve got a caravan in Torquay which is going to get more use, and I am keen to bring my golf handicap down to a more respectable number.”

Hobart Equipment Division MD David Riley added, “Much like when his friend and fellow Government business stalwart, Roger Kellow left Hobart, David leaves incredibly big shoes to fill.

'His expertise, dedication and ability to forge lasting relationships has helped Hobart build a formidable public sector presence. Moreover, the industry is losing one of its biggest characters – it simply won’t be the same without him; we wish him well in his retirement.”
