Urban Village Pub Co acquires Towcester pub


185 Watling Street Pub & Kitchen has been sold to Urban Village Pub Company. The pub, situated in the historic market town of Towcester, will be the 7th pub in the group, spanning London and the Home Counties.

The acquisition marks Urban Village Pub Company’s first pub in Northamptonshire.

Ian Grundy the group’s co-founder, along with Gavin Drew, said, “I am delighted to be able to welcome 185 Watling Street and the team, into the Urban Village Pubs group, and be able to bring the site out of administration, saving some 20+ jobs in the process.

'We believe this is a great opportunity in a lovely town, and have plans for a refurbishment in the New Year. We are very much looking forward to working with the team and the local community, to make 185 Watling Street a really strong addition to the centre of Towcester.

'I am sure the team will have a great Christmas in the meantime. They are very much looking forward to seeing many familiar and new faces over the next few weeks.”

Leisure property specialists Fleurets were instructed by administrators of Epic Pub Company, FRP Advisory, to handle to the marketing and sale.

Tom Cormie of Fleurets commented, “On the instructions of FRP Advisory, we have marketed Epic Pub Company’s estate, which comprised of The Golden Ball in Maidenhead, The Imperial Arms in Chelsea, alongside 185 Watling Street Pub & Kitchen. The Golden Ball was sold in October to Brakspear.”
