Village Urban Resorts plans new £20m Basingstoke hotel

Village Urban Resorts has revealed plans to develop a £20m, 153-bedroom hotel in Basingstoke, Hampshire, as it looks to double its 28-strong portfolio over the next five years.

The group is taking on a 250-year lease of a 2.3-acre site from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to operate the hotel under the brand’s new name, Village Hotel Club, which was launched earlier this year.

Located within the town’s 65-acre regenerated Basing View central business district, the hotel will feature a restaurant, bar, Starbucks coffee shop, business and events hub, and a health and fitness club.

Iain Stackhouse, head of property at Village Hotel Club, said the Basingstoke hotel is “an important step” towards the company’s ambition to double in size.

“A new business class hotel is key to Basingstoke Council’s ambitions for Basing View and Basingstoke more widely, and we aim to be a catalyst to encourage more businesses to move to Basing View,” he explained.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council cabinet member for property and development Cllr John Izett described the regeneration of Basing View as vital to the long-term economic prosperity of Basingstoke.

“The arrival of a business-class hotel on Basing View is an important addition to its existing amenities and helps make it an even more viable and desirable commercial location.”
