Ginza Onodera brings Japanese fine-dining to London

From the bustling streets of Tokyo to the heart of London, the Onodera Group's much anticipated London restaurant, named Ginza Onodera London, has opened its doors on Bury Street, St James.

The main restaurant fuses traditional Japanese minimalism with modern detailing, courtesy of renowned Japanese design house, Yosai Kiyono.

The à la carte menu spans kobachi (rarely seen in London), tataki, tartare, sushi and sashimi as well as teppan-yaki and robata grill dishes. A range of tasting and set menus are also available at lunch and dinner.

Diners can take a seat at the counter to watch as sensational sashimi is sliced, the freshest sea food is shelled and individual pieces are expertly made to order. The itamae (specialist sushi chefs) can prepare a set tasting menu for lunch only, or diners can hand pick from seasonal choices including octopus, snow crab and salmon roe or rich marbled tuna and sea urchin.

Teppan-yaki dishes are created using lobster (Canadian or spiny), black cod, marbled tuna and miyazaki-gyu sirloin. These are expertly prepared, cooked and sliced for service according to the ancient art of teppan-yaki.

Onodera signatures come in the form of cactus-fed turbot kobujime usuzukuri, Japanese wagyu dumplings and Japanese wagyu nikujyaga, whilst Scottish scallops, Canadian black cod saikyo-yaki, and Black Angus beef sirloin come direct from the Robata.

For private dining, there is the exclusive sushi suite and the teppanyaki room which each come complete with a dedicated chef, who prepares dishes at the central counter.

Head Sommelier Angelo Lorea has carefully curated a 450-string drinks menu with wine and extensive sake list. Angelo can recommend a perfectly paired sake – flavour notes such as fruit, flowers, herbs and spices will be considered, and all sakes are served at optimum temperature to complement your food..

Developed by Bar Manager and master mixologist Gergö Nyiri, the cocktail menu fuses Japanese flavours with the freshest, seasonal ingredients and carefully curated craft spirits. These include Can-can - Tamagawa sake, Chateu de Breuil V.S.O.P, figs, salted caramel, and Onodera Daiquiri - Cabernet Sauvignon- casked Japanese Rum, Japanese Kokuto sugar, lime.

Whisky lovers will appreciate Onodera’s extensive collection of over 35 Japanese and international single malts and blends, including Yamazaki Distillers Reserve, Suntory Toki, and the fine and rare Nikka Yoichi 20.
