New owner for £400k Grade II-listed Northants pub

The Four Candles, a closed village pub situated in the quaint village of Moreton Pinkney in Northamptonshire, has been sold via Christie & Co, off an asking price of £400k.

The 18th century Grade II-listed building has been comprehensively refurbished to a high standard and comprises three main trading areas, including a central bar with a snug, a second bar area and a restaurant, which is situated in the recently built extension.

Patio doors from the extension lead to a drinking terrace, ideal for alfresco dining during the summer months. Additionally, the pub has offers a three-bed owner’s accommodation on the first and second floors.

The Four Candles has been closed for some time but has historically been a very popular establishment within the local community. Ideally situated on Canons Ashby Road, which passes through the centre of the village, the site also sees high levels of passing trade due to its proximity to local tourist attractions, including Canons Ashby and Sulgrave Manor.

New owner and local businessman, Christopher Penn plans to carry out further refurbishments, add a commercial kitchen and let the pub to a new tenant, offering the opportunity for an operator to develop their own brand and add value to the business.

Penn commented, “We would also like to note how impressed we have been with Christie & Co from our first point of contact through to the final handover. Their help, advise and professionalism throughout has been exceptional and it has been a pleasure to work with them.”

Joshua Sullivan, Business Agent at Christie & Co who handled the sale, said, “The Four Candles was once an incredibly popular and revered local community establishment, which has been closed for some time. Following an intensive marketing campaign, we received a significant number of enquiries in a fairly short period of time.

' Mr Penn is interested in refurbishing the premises with a view to let it in the future, and I have no doubt that it will be a hugely successful venture for a suitable tenant once the works have been carried out.”
