Aldi is gearing up to open 16 new stores across the UK over the next five weeks, accelerating its nationwide expansion in the lead-up to the busy festive trading season.
The new stores, ranging from Kentish Town in London to Kirkintilloch in Scotland, are part of Aldi’s £650 million investment plan for 2025, which encompasses new openings and refurbishments across its 2,000-strong UK portfolio.
Each new store will create around 40 jobs, generating approximately 640 roles in total. In addition, Aldi is hiring a further 4,500 seasonal and permanent store colleagues to help meet the surge in demand over the Christmas period.
Aldi UK’s national real estate managing director, Jonathan Neale, said the new openings highlight the retailer’s “pace and ambition” as it continues to grow its footprint and make “affordable, high-quality food accessible to as many people as possible.”
“At Aldi, we’re focused on making affordable, high-quality food accessible to as many people as possible – and opening new stores is at the heart of how we do that,” he said.
“Launching 16 new stores in just over five weeks is a significant milestone for our business and a clear demonstration of the pace and ambition behind our growth plans. It means more communities will benefit from Aldi’s value and choice in the weeks ahead and beyond.”.
The expansion comes as the supermarket doubles down on its growth strategy, pledging £1.6 billion over the next two years to open around 40 new stores annually, further strengthening its position as the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket.
