Marks & Spencer targets 500 new sites for growth

Marks & Spencer has announced a search for 500 additional locations to develop new stores and upgrade existing ones as part of its food retail expansion strategy.

Marks & Spencer has revealed plans to identify up to 500 new sites for new and refurbished stores as it continues to grow its food business.

Alex Freudmann, managing director, M&S Food said: “The strong performance of our new M&S food stores gives us the confidence to explore even more locations across the UK, from Elgin to Exmouth. With more than twenty stores opening or being modernised before the end of the financial year, we are moving faster.

“Our team want new sites where we could open a large M&S Food store as we deliver on our strategy to bring the right stores to the right places and offer the best shopping experience, range and availability for our customers.”

The retailer is searching for 500 locations to launch its new store format, delivering a bigger M&S Food range, more spacious layouts and expanded parking.

M&S is set to launch or renew 20 stores between November and March, generating approximately 800 new jobs.

M&S plans to renew more than half of its stores, including convenience formats, as part of its transformation strategy by April 2028.

The news follows the launch of M&S Food in Australia through its collaboration with Coles.
