JD Wetherspoon will open its first overseas pub in January 2026, aiming to tap into international travel hubs for growth.
The Castell de Santa Bàrbera pub is set to open in the departures section of Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport in Spain.
Operating seven days a week between 6 am and 9 pm, the pub will serve food up to one hour before closing.
The menu will mirror those found across the UK, featuring breakfast dishes, burgers, pizzas, and a selection of local specialties such as garlic prawns and Spanish omelette.
Diners will enjoy 1,000 sq ft of indoor space, along with an outdoor terrace for al fresco seating.
Tim Martin, founder and chairman of Wetherspoon, said: “We are very much looking forward to opening our first overseas pub.
“We believe it will be popular with people travelling home from Alicante Airport.
“We aim to open a number of pubs overseas in the coming months and years, including those at airports.”
Earlier this week, Wetherspoon announced that four more pubs will open in spring 2026 through an exclusive partnership with British holiday park operator Haven.
In April, JD Wetherspoon also announced plans to expand to over 1,000 sites through franchising with hotel partners.
