Welsh food wholesaler Harlech Foodservice has reported a near 20% rise in sales, reaching £30 million within a six-month period.
Headquartered in Criccieth, Harlech Foodservice operates sites in Chester, Carmarthen, Aberbargoed and Telford, and says five years of rapid growth have transformed it into a major force in the UK market.
Since April 2025, Harlech has grown business by 68% in South Wales and the West Midlands, adding 117 new customers. In the North West, 390 new accounts have been opened, driving a 46% increase in sales.
In its North Wales base, where Harlech has operated since 1972, the business has gained 125 new customers since April and achieved an 8% increase in sales. Following the pandemic, staff numbers at Cricieth and Chester grew from 120 to nearly 300 over four years, alongside the launch of three new sites.
Mark Lawton, managing director of Harlech Foodservice who joined the company in 2016, said: 'I am very proud to be part of the team that has been involved in the expansion, and our latest half yearly results show a clear upwards trajectory in Harlech’s fortunes.
“We have successfully moved into the public sector, into education and healthcare in particular, so that now we supply all six local education authorities in North Wales as well as hospitals across Wales.
“We have harnessed technology with the My Harlech app that makes ordering easier and we have pushed back our deadlines so that orders made after service are delivered the next day to smooth out the peaks and troughs.”
