Radio Alice to open Canary Wharf site in July

This summer Radio Alice, the Bologna-born pizzeria founded by brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe, will bring their neighbourhood pizzeria to Canary Wharf.

In July, the Aloe brothers will introduce their signature pizzas, that are sliced to share, to the financial capital of London.

Radio Alice celebrates small-scale Italian producers throughout the menu, from aperitivo hour with Amalfi coast anchovies from the fishing village of Cetara, to speck and prosciutto from the Aloes’ own butcher in Bologna.

Matteo’s pizzas are topped with regularly changing seasonal ingredients from organic farms across ‘the Boot’ before being sliced to share, including ‘Nduja, fiordilatte mozzarella, tomato and parsley; Anchovies, tomato, capers, red onion, lemon zest, oregano; and the more adventurous Prosciutto di Parma with burrata and orange-infused oil. Desserts take a classical Italian route, with traditional cannoli and homemade tiramisu.

Salvatore said, “With each pizzeria, from Milan to Rome to Hoxton, we’ve always wanted to get to grips with the neighbourhood. Whether collaborating with local artists for the murals on the wall or teaming up with the area’s charities, we want to be a place for locals. We’re really looking forward to getting to know a new corner of London.”

Matteo added, “Since we opened in 2010, there’s been a shift towards the importance of organic and sustainable ingredients on restaurant menus, and London has been an early pioneer in this. We’ve worked closely with the Soil Association and recently discovered some fantastic British producers so look forward to incorporating these alongside our Italian friends in Canary Wharf.”

In 2010, Calabrian-born Matteo and Salvatore Aloe opened their first pizzeria, Berberè in Bologna. With the belief that great pizza requires the best ingredients sourced from small-scale producers, the brothers were amongst the first in Italy to champion organic, sourdough pizzas, using organic stoneground flour and allowing their sourdough to ferment for 24 hours.

Six years on, the Aloes met Emma King, a fellow dough-lover and co-founder of Gail’s bakery. Together, they devised a plan to bring their pizzas to London and opened Radio Alice in Hoxton Square in 2016, followed by Clapham the following year.
