Foundry Project clinches national pizza award

Foundry Project, the all-day dining bar and restaurant in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, has scooped the ‘Technical Pizza of the Year’ award at the 2019 National Pizza Awards.

Taking place at Islington Metal Works in London, 16 shortlisted pizza professionals from street food stalls, pubs and restaurants across the country attended the final in a bid to win the prestigious ‘National Pizza of the Year’ title.

Finalists were also tasked with a Technical Pizza challenge, requiring contestants to use ingredients supplied by Pan Artisan, Tabasco and Salvo with entries marked on taste, texture, appearance and creativity.

Foundry Project chef, Ilias Kazantzidis was awarded the coveted ‘Technical Pizza of the Year’ accolade for his expertly crafted creation, using pulled spiced lamb shoulder, harissa roasted aubergine and mint pesto.

Kazantzidis (pictured centre, with host, Nigel Barden, left, and Tristan O’Hana, Casual Dining Magazine) commented, ‘I’m delighted to have received this award and industry recognition. It was a pleasure to attend the finals with so many talented, passionate professionals from across the country.”

Other winners on the night included Brigitta Stamber from Pizzaface, who won ‘National Pizza of the Year’, and The National Pizza Awards highlight some of the most talented and innovative pizza chefs across the UK. Judging criteria includes consideration over quality and consistency, flavour profile, choice of ingredients and how the base is made.
