London-based Shaftesbury has just announced Carnaby Cares, a digital campaign that promotes the wide range of projects going on across its Carnaby portfolio.
Simon Quayle, Director, Shaftesbury, said, “Since lockdown commenced, many of our retail and restaurant tenants in Carnaby were amongst the first to launch various initiatives to support the NHS, key workers and the most vulnerable.
'The inspirational content shows how businesses have adapted to help others, and shines a light on the positive community spirit.”
The campaign supports initiatives from Carnaby tenants, and here follows some highlights.
The #FeedNHS project has gone from strength to strength. Launched by John Vincent co-founder and CEO of Leon in partnership with Helen McCrory, Matt Lucas and Damian Lewis, it is raising vital funds to provide healthy meals directly to NHS teams.
The campaign has brought together a range of organisations and operators into a coalition which includes Mealforce and BaxterStorey that together are delivering 40,000 meals a day to 101 hospitals across the country.
Carnaby restaurants Dishoom, Pizza Pilgrims and Rosa’s Thai Cafe have joined the campaign, which has raised over £1.2m to date.
Leon has also been offering a 50% discount for NHS staff at their shops and on deliveries via Deliveroo and are extending this in shops (for grocery items and chef-created ready meals) and restaurants to the end of May.

'FeedNHS is now funding over 12,000 meals a day to hospital staff. The whole campaign is testament to the fact this crisis has brought people, and businesses, together.”
Le Bab co-founders, Stephen Tozer and Ed Brunet launched the not-for-profit social kitchen ‘The London Restaurant Co-operative’, back in March, and has now delivered over 9,000 meals to the NHS.
To date, the scheme has delivered over 200 meals a day to NHS staff across London at; The Whittington, St Pancras hospital, Homerton University Hospital, Royal Brompton, Royal Marsden, Croydon University Hospital, Great Ormond street, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, and also to The Connection at St Martin’s Field Homeless Shelter.
Later this month, Asma Khan’s Darjeeling Express restaurant is cooking for two hospitals, Kingston and St George’s. This is part of its annual tradition of sending iftar (food to break the fast) for medics in the Islamic month of Ramadan.
This year the restaurant is sending food as takeaway packs for all 150 staff at Kingston Hospital which includes porters and admin staff, and not just those fasting. Pastaio is also supporting NHS workers by partnering with ‘Fuel the Fight London’ to help cater for London hospitals
