The Savoy launches new take away coffee shop

London's The Savoy hotel has introduced, Melba at The Savoy, an all-new take-away, gourmet counter.

Open seven days a week, the menu at Melba is created by executive pastry chef, Ludwig Hely. The selection of food includes sweet and savoury pastries, and British sandwich classics, along with hot and cold beverages to take away.

The gourmet counter is a striking and elegant juxtaposition to the existing shops on the Strand, and complement to The Savoy’s existing collection of food and beverage outlets.

Melba’s interior design is clearly defined by The Savoy’s recent restoration and incorporates the same striking black and white marble flooring, with hand-carved woodwork interiors and grey Italian marble counter tops.

Melba at The Savoy is named in honour of two greats: in the late 1800s, one Savoy executive chef was so enchanted by Savoy guest and Australian operatic soprano, Dame Nellie Melba, that he created menu items which have become cherished the world-over. Extolled for over 100 years both in the public and industry eye, Auguste Escoffier created both Peach Melba and Melba toast for the singer.
