Brend Collection announces completion of shareholder buyout

The Brend Collection has finalised an “amicable” shareholder buyout as the hotel group positions itself to strengthen and grow its portfolio.

Directors Peter, Matthew, and Justin Brend, along with chairman John Brend, have acquired the shares held by Richard Brend. As part of the agreement, Richard Brend now assumes sole ownership of the Royal Hotel in Bideford, the Devon Hotel in Exeter, and the group’s automotive business, Taw Garages.

The remainder of the Brend Collection remains under the family firm’s ownership, encompassing a portfolio of prominent hotels across the South West. These include the Saunton Sands Hotel in Saunton, the Carlyon Bay Hotel in Cornwall, the Victoria and the Belmont in Sidmouth, the Royal Duchy in Falmouth, and the Park, the Imperial, and the Royal & Fortescue Hotels in Barnstaple.

The buyout follows a recent filing with Companies House, which showed that Percy R Brend & Sons (Hoteliers) registered a charge over its assets in favour of Lloyds Bank last month.

Founded by Percy and Florence Brend in 1955, the group has undergone a significant rebrand across its portfolio over the past three years.

Recent developments have included the introduction of Source Spa and Wellness centres at the Saunton Sands and Victoria hotels, with expansion plans also underway at the Carlyon Bay.

Peter said: “A sense of family has always been at the heart of our business, and nothing will change in that respect. It’s an ethos that drives everything we do – from our service philosophy to our most valued assets and our highly professional team.”

Matthew said: “We will continue to invest in our wonderful properties and are very proud of all that has been achieved over the last 70 years. We wish Richard Brend and his family all the best and every success with the Royal hotel, the Devon hotel and Taw Garages.”
